CMI (Chartered Management Institute) and ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) are both Ofqual-regulated awarding bodies offering management qualifications at the same RQF levels. The key CMI differentiator is the Chartered Manager (CMgr) designation — only CMI qualifications are on the pathway to chartered status. ILM qualifications, part of the City & Guilds Group, carry strong brand recognition particularly in public sector, NHS, and local government roles. Both are widely accepted by UK employers.

Most providers accept relevant professional experience in lieu of formal management experience at Level 5, though you typically need to be in, or moving into, a supervisory or management role during the course to generate portfolio evidence.
