About this qualification

What you'll learn

GCSE Mathematics grade 4 or above is the single most demanded qualification in UK education and employment. It is required for nursing, teacher training, police officer entry, civil service graduate schemes, and almost every professional apprenticeship. For adults who left school with a grade below 4, or without a maths GCSE at all, this is the qualification that restores access to all of those routes, on the same terms as someone who achieved it at school.

This is a full GCSE qualification awarded by AQA, the largest awarding body for GCSE Mathematics in England. It is graded 1 to 9, with grade 4 the standard pass. The specification covers number (including fractions, percentages, and standard form), algebra (equations, functions, and graphs), ratio and proportion, geometry (properties of shapes, mensuration, and trigonometry), probability, and statistics. Both foundation tier (grades 1 to 5) and higher tier (grades 4 to 9) are available, your tutor helps you decide which tier is right for your target grade.
